Published annually by Baseball America since 1988, the Baseball Almanac includes standings for every minor league and independent league plus season recaps for almost all leagues. Additionally overviews and league leaders are given for Nippon Pro Baseball, the Korea Baseball Organization, Chinese Professional Baseball League, China Baseball League, Italian, Dutch and Cuban leagues, winter leagues, college and high school. The major league draft is reprinted with each pick. The Almanac also lists annual awards given out by Baseball America, an obituary of baseball personalities to pass away in the prior year and statistics for all major and minor league teams. Previously Baseball America had put out a similar publication known as the Statistics Report. The Almanac was the main rival for The Sporting News' Baseball Guide; the Guide's big advantage was that it contains fielding stats for the low minors and comprehensive Mexican League statistics, which the Almanac lacks. The Almanac generally contained more information on the minors and the Sporting News Guide did not include international or independent leagues. When the Guide was no longer being published after the 2006 edition, the Almanac became the clear-cut choice as the best baseball annual.
